Ponson

Despite St. Louis losing the game, Ponson actually looked ok in his first outing for the Cards. He gave up three runs in five innings, but they were all from a cheap Jacque Jones home run that barely got over the fence. I know that he's not going to be a superstar, but he'll be servicable as the Cards' 5th starter.

In PH4H league, I only made 11.7 points from Ponson's start, which is not great but not horrible. Especially when you consider that Sunny Kim and Jorge Julio have earned me 21.2 and 23.2 points in their respective 1.2 innings.

In talking about the new Busch stadium, he impliedly dissed Camden Yards, saying "I'm not saying anything bad about Camden Yards, but this is really nice."

Now, to be fair, Camden Yards is a pretty damn nice ballpark. Sidney's just bitter.

C'mon. You just want to pick on Sidney. He wasn't dissing Camden Yards. If I say "I'm not saying anything bad about vanilla, but chocolate is really good," am I dissing vanilla?

As for "buyer beware," the Cards are only paying him one million, plus incentives. So if he doesn't perform, he doesn't get paid any more than $1 million. And the Cards have pitchers in the minors and in their bullpen that are ready to step up if Sidney doesn't perform.

Justin, not to say anything bad about your argument, but . . .

You would have a better argument if Ponson had said something to the effect of "I pitched for a couple years at Camden Yards, which is a pretty great ballpark, but this new stadium blows C.Y. away!"

The fact that he prefaced it with the old "I'm not saying anything bad about C.Y., but . . ." implies negativity.

Dara, Ponson is no more implicitly dissing Camden Yards than you're implicitly dissing the new Busch, which you haven't even been too.

Plus, you just grabbed a half quote out of context from an article. The next line was Ponson talking about the pitching mound at the new Busch. Have you ever been on the pitching mound at Camden Yards? Do you have any way to judge its relative merits to the new pitching mound at Busch? And at the time of the article, he was the only player on the Cards that had played a game at the park. What baseball player, in that siutuation, wouldn't say he plays in the best park in the league?

PNC Park is the best park in baseball that I've been too. And I'm not saying anything bad about Camden Yards. So now by your rules, I'm a Baltimore disser?
