Cards trying to blow it....
The Cards are doing everything in their power to blow the NL Central. Despite seemingly having the division locked up last week, the Cards have lost 6 in a row, and the Astros have won 6 in a row.
Here's how things stand now.
The Astros are 2.5 back, both teams have 6 games to go (although the Cards will only have played 161 games and I don't see any double headers scheduled, I'm not sure what's up with that).
The Cards have two games against the Padres and four against the Brewers. The Astros have three against the Pirates and three against the Braves.
Granted, the last team to be in such a free fall at the end of the season and almost miss the playoffs was..... The 2005 Chicago White Sox. And we know what happened with them.
Still, I'm a bit worried. If the Cards blow it, will someone please buy me an empanada?

I'd buy you an empanada, but it would be hollow, just like the hopes and expectations of Cardinals fans. Their performance of late is, dare I say it, Cubs-like. Oh, no, wait. The Cubs would win 6 in a row, then lose their last 6 to blow it. Probably on a series of blown saves by Ryan Dempster.
The Cubs look like they're going to come short of the Royals in their effort to have the worst record in the Majors. Sorry, Dan. They tried their hardest.
Yeah, no thanks to the Royals. The Cubs have blown saves two days in a row (though only one of them was by Ryan Dempster).
Could be. Still, the Cards have 5 home games (six in necessary) while the other two teams have 5 each on the road. If the Cards win three of four from the Brewers and the Astros lose 2 of 5, that's all it takes for the Cards.
This is the greatest comeback ever for my 'stros. Was at the game on Saturday night when Luke Scott had the walk off home run in the 9th. AMAZING It's like they're on a mission. I can't believe your Cards can't even win with Carpenter on the mound... GO STROS!
That was a bad coach move by La Russa. Carp made it through 6 innings, not pitching great but good enough, and La Russa left him in to get shelled in the 7th.
Still, the Cards got the win yesterday and now things look a bit better. Cards have 4 games vs. the Brewers while the Astros have to deal with the Braves 3 times, and, as the Mets found out this week, the Braves are playing some pretty good ball.
Justin, if the Cards miss the playoffs, are you sure you're only going to want an empanada? If I were you, I'd want something a little stronger, like Scotch.
As it turns out, not an issue.
