The last Cristian Guzman post?

The Washington Post reports that the Nationals have traded Cristian Guzman to the Rangers.

Miguel Batista in a swimsuit?

Two words: No thanks. But it's a funny exchange he has been having with Miss Iowa. (Look for the second brief.) I do think we should go support Batista if he gets the start on Sunday, though.

It's where they make lawnmowers. Right.

Nice headline on Nationals.com today:

Lost in Stephen Strasburg's start Sunday was a Nats offense that scored nine runs on 16 hits. Washington will try to keep swinging hot bats today at 7:05 p.m. ET in Detroit. Preview >

Cristian Guzman's triple play

If this blog has any life left at all, we must note that Cristian Guzman hit into a triple play last night (see it here). Of course, the blame lies mostly with the overeager baserunners, and perhaps a little with the umpires (who initially did not clearly rule that the ball was caught), but still.

ESPN's news crawl noted that he hit into an "inning-ending triple play." You heard it here first: If there's ever a triple play that does not end an inning, I'll open an empanada restaurant. (I'll keep some recipes handy, because any Missouri football fan knows that the rules don't always work.)

Beware the sausages

If you're tired of watching the Nationals, perhaps a sausage-cannon fail will distract you.

At least they lose in novel ways

An empanada for all regular readers of this blog (a shout-out to both of you) if the following happen in a single half-inning another time this baseball season: 2 walks, a hit batsman, an error, a relief pitcher balks in a run before throwing his first pitch, a player steals third. They do not have to happen in that order.

PH4H Mr. Teen Baseball

The inaugural award goes to ... Carlos Alvarez Daniel "Esmailyn Gonzalez" Lugo (whose name, but not DOB, has been corrected on the linked site). He gets the award even though he "may have been duped as much as anyone"—at least that's what his agent says.

Only one of these is supposed to be funny

  1. Speaking of The Onion, have you all seen their article about Ryan Zimmerman hitting a ball into the Capitol Rotunda?

  2. And, speaking of Ryan Zimmerman, has anyone else read his blog?

Elijah Dukes

Looks like the Nationals are taking a chance on Dukes, hoping he will be like Young next year. I think PH4H should sponsor either the Comeback Player of the Year award or its counterpart, the Falldown Player of the Year Award. If this one works, I heard the Nat may sign Darrell Strawberry and Dwight Gooden.
